My first daffodil popped this morning.
I feel joy at seeing the bright yellow trumpet
with its collar of sun-coloured petals!
I love daffodils. They’re my favourite flowers,
full of life, enthusiastic gold.
And the spring squills are everywhere.
Blue variations peek from the greening grass
in random patterns,
wherever I have planted them
and wherever the squirrels have moved them.
It is the last day of April. The flowers are coming…
Release from the clutches of maritime winter! At last…
