Red Haired Girl

Red Haired Girl

Red haired girl
paddles
without knowing
where her river leads.

Sure, strong, fierce.

Watch
her sky
the paddle,
flinging
salt, sweat,
an occasional tear.

Sure, strong, fierce.

She travels
beside the running man,
shares her strength
and strange salt love.

Sure, strong, fierce,
this red haired girl.

Photo is mine.

Love this, Carol. It captures what I feel when I'm padding...assured, strong, fierce. Capable. You've made me think about this again. And it's also quiet, solitary, reflective. I find it's a very inner experience, when you step off solid ground and place trust the boat, the current, your own capabilities.

Thanks Deborah. What a lovely comment!
It is an empowered experience to paddle your own boat.

I like the phrase strange salt love, it makes me think the red haired girl is a selkie (mythical seal creature)

Thanks for feedback CGP. I hadn't thought of her in that way but like the idea very much. I was trying to connect the saltiness of salt water, tears and sweat but like your take better.
