Desire

Desire

The leaves on the sugar maple
burn vibrant orange.
Sparks of yellow
and extravagant crimson
explode into moments
of fire-fall embers.

And we forget
everything,
stop and draw near,
willing to be singed
by the fevers of autumn.

This year has been particularly terrific for brilliant colour on the leaves. It's a good year.

Hi Carol. Your poem makes the most of the fire metaphor. I love the images around the words 'ember' and 'singe'. Jane
