Thoughts Following Surgery
pain explodes
into unbearable fever.
Like wounded willows,
I leak,
form a crust,
mend into a ridge
and hollow.
Better to rustle
in the breeze
than to become brittle,
bitter against
the surgeon's charm.

Having badly broken an ankle on the ice here I broke both tib & fib and needed the first ever operation in my life. I can say, I've never known pain quite like it. They had to put a permanent metal plate and screws in to hold it all together. So when I say 'I feel you in this' I feel you.
If this is you, get well soon Carol.
Thanks Daydreamertoo for your good wishes and poetry feedback. The first few days after surgery are not much fun. These wordle words were perfect for capturing the pain of the past week.
Carol, your words capture the pain of healing vividly.. Truly, it seems that these wordle words were meant for you. Hope you feel better each day.
Nice reference to the "surgeon's charm."
Hi Mary,
I am slowly getting better, thank you. There is pain in the healing, as well as pain in the loss of bits of one's physical self.
Thanks Annell,
Surgeons alwasy seem to feel in charge and try to share that confidence, through charm and huge smiles prior to surgery. Me, I don't feel so smiley at that time, but notice their efforts. It all seems ironic to me.
You describe those first moments of healing well. Your use of the words is excellent. Hope each day brings a bit less pain,
Elizabeth

an unbearable fever doesn't sound like something that should accompany this event. hope you are healing safely now.
Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for your feedback. The first days are the worst, after an assault on the body. Everything seems out of whack. And thank you for good wishes.
I always find it amazing when a set of words fits my situation, as these words surely seem to have fit yours. Well woven!

Hello Gwen,
Thanks for you comment and wishes. It hasn't been my best week ever.
Hello Magical Mystical Teacher,
Yes, it is a bit odd when a random set of word prompts will so closely cover a situation in my life...a mystery.
Hi Flaubert,
Thanks for your comment on my poem. Carol
Hi MiskMask,
Squirmy is how it should make one feel, so that is great. Thanks for your comment. Carol
Yikes! I'm not sure that I should have read this; I'm having surgery in a couple of days!
sorry you've had so much pain, hope you feel better soon. I like your metaphor of the willows...
Swift healing in body and spirit. I've only had minor issues with fractures. Though I know of quite a few that have added mechanical pieces placed where bone once was.

As it is about my nasty wizard.
Hello Mama Zen,
Oh, sorry to have upset you. It is not the after effects of surgery so much as all the meds I had to take which are causing problems. Best wishes with your surgery. I'll be thinking about you, Carol
Thanks CGP for the wishes and for the comment upon the willow image.
Hello Jules,
Thanks for your comment and your wishes.
Well wordled to-the-point poem Carol - really well-told and yes you've made me squirm ... sorry you've had such a bad time - it's never easy, I don't think but sometimes, it's worse than it needs to be - hope you're on the mend now ...

I'm glad you are on the mend, Carol. Your words are fantastic. Your first stanza paints a rich image. I've felt those last four lines before. Well done~!
Hello S. E. Ingraham,
Thanks for you comments. I'm glad you think I captured the feel of the experience.
Hi Brenda,
